As a boy, Norman Childes didn’t think it was quite right that pencil toppers had pencils pushed into parts unknown. And all these years later, it still bugs him. So he specifically designed Press-out Pencil Play Pals to look like they’re actually holding on to the pencil.
He also made sure there wasn’t any white space in narrow areas around their bodies—as often found with the sloppy design of many press-out cardboard characters. They’re also illustrated on both sides to look good whichever way they’re facing you.
Not everyone realizes why they love the look of something, but it’s attention to details like these that make all the difference.
